A court in Mumbai has sent the comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa to 14-day judicial custody till 4th December, in connection with the seizure of ganja from their residence, as per a report by ANI.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday, 21 November, arrested Bharti Singh for alleged consumption and possession of Ganja under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) 1986.Her husband Harsh Limbachiyaa was also arrested in connection with the same.
Around 86.5 gms of ganja was recovered from their residence and both Singh and Limbachiya reportedly accepted consumption, NCB sources told.
The raids by the NCB come amid an expanding probe into alleged drug use by members of the film and entertainment industry. The probe began with inquiries into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June.
Earlier this month actor Arjun Rampal’s home was searched and both he and his girlfriend, Gabriella Demetriades, were summoned for questioning.
Demetriades was questioned over a period of two days while Arjun Rampal was questioned for six hours last week. As he was leaving the agency’s office in south Mumbai, he clarified that the substances found by the NCB at his residence were part of a prescription.
“I am fully cooperating with the investigation. I have nothing to do with drugs. The medicine found at my residence was prescribed. The prescription has been found and handed over,” he said.
The NCB had earlier also arrested Paul Bartel, an Australian architect whose name emerged as an alleged supplier after the questioning of Agisialos Demetriades – a South African national who is Ms Demetriades’s brother and is currently in the agency’s custody.
